A. S.W. Monsoon winds bring rainfall to India. They are so important because agriculture mainly depends upon this rainfall.


Q. Name the different seasons in India.

A. Broadly four major seasons are recognized in India.
  • Cold weather season (Winter) December to February.
  • Hot weather season (Summer) from March to May.
  • South-west monsoon season (Rainy) from June to September.
  • Season of retreating monsoon from (October and November).

Q. What is natural vegetation?

A. The grasses, shrubs, and trees that grow on their own without any human interference or help are termed natural vegetation.


Q. Name the different types of vegetation found in India.

A. Vegetation found in India can be divided into five types.
  • Tropical Evergreen forest
  • Tropical Deciduous forest
  • Thorny bushes
  • Mountain vegetation
  • Mangrove forests

Q. What is the difference between the evergreen forest and deciduous forest?

A.
Evergreen forest Tropical deciduous forest
They occur in areas where the rainfall is very heavy. They are so dense that sunlight does not reach the ground. These forests are also called monsoon forests. They are less dense.
Many spieces of trees are found, which shed their leaves at different times of the year. They always appear green and so are called evergreen forest. They shed their leaves at a particular time of the year.
Imporatant trees found are mahogany, ebony, rosewood. Imporatant trees are sal, teak, peepal, neem and shisham.
They are found in Andaman and Nicobar islands, parts of north-eastern states and narrow strip of western slope of Western Ghats. They are found in Madhya Pardesh, Bihar, HJharkhand, Chattisgarh, Orissa and in parts of Maharashtra.

A. Tropical rainforest always appears green and therefore it is called an evergreen forest.
